From bad to worse
After difficult start to his race weekend at Hockenheim and a disappointing qualification the race which followed on Sunday was equally disappointing. He did not just make it to the end if the race, the reason for his early retirement was subject to a caution issued to him by the FIA.
This was a bad end to what looked like a good race right after the start. Kovy jumped from P20 to P15 and managed to avoid the race incident between the two Toro Rosso drivers and dodged the pieces that flew around. After that it was rather lonely for Kovy as the Lotus driver was quite a distance ahead of the other newbie teams. Team mate Jarno Trulli was forced to retire after yet another gearbox issue. Technical problems are still bothering the team as on Saturday Heikki did mention his concerns about the engine.
And then came the race ending accident when Heikki accidently collided with Pedro de la Rosa.“A disappointing end but it was just one of those things that can happen when you’re having to let cars past. It was my mistake but I didn’t see the Sauber coming“, explained Heikki after the race. “I thought I was letting the Williams past, and didn’t see the Sauber so I closed the door and that was the end of the race. It’s a shame because I was running pretty well until then.”
Formula 1 will travel to Hungary now for next weekend's race, after which the circus goes onto the 3-week summer break.
